Don Clymer, 2014, U.S. It is difficult to relinquish our need to be in control. It is difficult to espouse all the traits of Gelassenheit [peace, calmness] to which the Anabaptists aspired. It takes effort to follow the perfect example of Jesus, who modeled these kingdom qualities better than anyone else. Because it is difficult to let go, we can get down on ourselves for our human failings. Our attitude should be more like Paul in Philippians 3:12: Not that I have already obtained all this [peace] or have already arrived at my goal [surrender], but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
