Donald Fagen of STEELY DAN was born on this date in 1948. STEELY DAN began in the early 70s and disbanded in 1981. They have since reunited and toured off and on. Donald Fagen formed the band with Walter Becker and the sound they crafted was and remains one of the most unique in rock. A progressive rock-by-way-of-jazz mutant. After STEELY DAN broke up, Fagen began a sporadic solo career. The band took their name from the William Burroughs novel, NAKED LUNCH where Steely Dan III from Yokohama was an immense strap-on dildo. I should also mention that the music of Steely Dan is a dominant feature in Stephen Graham Jones brilliant novel, ALL THE BEAUTIFUL SINNERS.
