Donated food enables the food pantry to distribute more food to families than the USDA formula specifies. Most food from all donated and USDA sources, however, feeds WHOLE families, but there is little food donated that might be called child-specific. We normally have to purchase food such as fruit cups, juice and pudding packs, crackers and cereal bars from retailers and from the Food Bank. The Summer Food for Youth Program is a way of concentrating our efforts to provide families with food that children prefer and that is nutritious for children specifically.
