Donetsk, January 8, 2014. Alas, prewar Donetsk. When there was a Maidan, and when the man speaking here (in Russian) urged a transition of power through presidential elections, and through civil societys control of those elections, through a civic organization not connected to political parties. Its all history now. I bet many of the people in attendance had to leave Donetsk. And certainly I couldnt risk my life standing on that square today. For those of you who know Russian, you might be interested in the speech as a historical artifact anyway. Note that the speaker opposes the dictatorship of the troika of opposition political leaders (Yatsenyuk, Klychko, Tiahnybok). Freedom is not for free, my fellow Americans. Take care of yourselves and make the system work better for all of us. July 4, 2014, Kyiv
