Donkey trapped in between a railway track and flooded - TopicsExpress

Donkey trapped in between a railway track and flooded trench Gardaí work with the Donkey Sanctuary to save the life of an abandoned donkey in Tuam, Co. Galway. Thanks to a vigilant walker for reporting this misfortunate donkey to the Gardaí, who worked with The Donkey Sanctuary to rescue him from distressing conditions. The walker said that “the donkey was confined to a very small space and had run out of grass.” Ian Colton, our Donkey Welfare Adviser in the West of Ireland said “the donkey was hemmed between the drain and a fence (3 strands of barbed wire over sheep wire) on a narrow strip of ground approx. 3 meters wide.” Members of the Gardaí and Ian had great difficulty in accessing the distraught donkey, when they did they discovered that his feet were in appalling condition. This rescue took up a lot of Garda time and it required four people to bring about a good result with the minimum of stress to the donkey and safety for all involved. The donkey was transported to The Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll, Co. Cork. He has since been named Aero. After being treated by our farrier and veterinary team Aero was more comfortable. Our senior veterinary surgeon commented on the severe neglect that caused his feet to distort in this way and the pain that the donkey must have endured. He did not know his luck to have a nice warm stable, big straw bed and around the clock care. To donate towards Aero’s care please click on the iDonate button on our Facebook page and website. All donations gratefully received.
