Dont Be Duped. Theres an organization that popped up recently called Opportunity Denied. They encourage folks to contact their representatives to OPPOSE the Gainful Employment Regulation, being considered. They do so with slight phrases like Dont Let DC Control Education Choice. And, of course, thousands of people click like without any further information. What these people fail to realize is that this page and their campaigns are run by a conservative PAC (barely identified) and lobbies for for-profit schools that routinely provide little benefit to their students. These students end up not paying their loans back. We, the taxpayers, end up funding these diploma mills. The regulation they oppose is one which would require some form of success for the students graduating from these institutions in order for the school to continue to be eligible for federally backed student loans. Simple: If your students routinely fail to gain better employment and/or continue to default on student loan payments at an alarming rate, youll no longer be an eligible institution for taxpayer guaranteed student loan revenue. Its good for the students (theyll be less inclined to get suckered into crappy educational programs) and its good for taxpayers (when these students get good jobs, theyre more likely to pay their loans and less likely to stick you and I with the bill). If you come across a post from this page, I encourage you to post something along the lines of: Tell Washington to stop letting taxpayer funds, in the way of guaranteed student loans, go to so-called educational institutions that provide little benefit to their students and end up sticking it to the American taxpayer.
