Dont Drink The Kool-Aide; is a saying that was adopted after Jim Jones, a cult religious leader who in 1978, orchestrated a mass suicide of 909 of its members in Jonestown, Guyana. People use that saying to tell people not to be tricked or hoodwinked. The 2011 article below outlines how the 17th ward alderman, her staff, the Mayor and her major supporters; orchestrated a fake ground-breaking ceremony during a close run-off election against David Moore, stating that two wal-marts would be built in the 17th ward with promises of hundreds of jobs. During this time, only two southside Alderman; Howard Brookins and Anthony Beale, fought and had plans and discussions with their constituents to build a wal-mart; and yet, they had not had a ground breaking. The reason, it was a trick with tax dollars spent on preparation to try and show that the incumbent; who was in a very close race, was doing something in the community. Three and a half years later, NO WAL-MART! Now watch out for the Kool-Aide because after the 4TH of July, 2014; another ground-breaking will take place on the site of 76th and Ashland. And guess what you all? Its election time again in February 2014. Yes they have to save face and build the neighborhood market that was not originally planned, but they could not pull off the entire lie and complete the other that was promised near 69th and Western. They will get in the media and tell us lies about paperwork hold--ups and negotiations. Do all of us a favor and just tell the truth for once.
