Dont baste your Thanksgiving turkey. Seriously. Pouring liquid - TopicsExpress

Dont baste your Thanksgiving turkey. Seriously. Pouring liquid or brushing butter onto a cooking turkey is the same as doing it to your own arm. All you get is wet, slippery skin, but all the meat inside isnt affected because there is a layer of SKIN keeping the moisture from seeping through! The other evil thing that happens when you open up your oven is that you lose the heat inside and it takes longer for your bird to cook. Why is that a problem? Oh ya, you could have a dried out bird from overcooking it while trying to get it to a safe temperature! So if you want tasty turkey skin, butter and season the bird before he goes into the oven. If you want moist meat, use a good meet thermometer, keep your oven closed, and consider a good brine bath ahead of time. If you want to flavor the meat, inject it before it starts cooking. But dont ever, ever, baste your Turkey. Your family will thank you!
