Dont be fooled: the Republicans Save American Workers Act actually hurts American workers and costs many of them their health care benefits. If this bill becomes law, up to 500,000 Americans will lose their health insurance, and a million Americans will lose their employer-sponsored health coverage. Under current law, workers employed an average of 30 hours or more each week count as full-time employees under the Affordable Care Act. The Save American Workers Act will increase that minimum from 30 hours to 40 hours. This gives employers the incentive to cut their employees’ hours below the 40-hour level to avoid providing health care coverage to their employees. I strongly oppose this bill because it makes it harder for workers to earn a good living and provide health care for their families.
