Dont be scared, St. Louis. Own it. Embrace it. This is our time in the spotlight. This is our chance to show the world that we can come together across borders and barriers and figure our shit out. If you care about this sphere, if you care about this stage, if you care about the story that youre writing by being a part of this intricate deathmachine called life, then own it. Dont be ashamed. Dont be scared. Speak softly, carry a big stick, and do what you can to make this city strong again. Theres a very fine line between cynicism and sensibility, and I can never quite figure out where it is when Im commenting on current events and media controversies. But you cant go wrong with Love. If you love your self, your home, your city, or your country, then you want to do whats best for it. You want to nurture it, and nourish it, and see it produce beautiful fruit. There are OBVIOUSLY some problems with our system. It doesnt matter how you slice it, or what you believe, politically, that the real issue is. At the end of the day we can all agree that there IS an issue, and its time for us to come to the table together, as a COMMUNITY - in St. Louis and in the rest of the world - to HEAR each other OUT, recognize our mutual HUMANITY and come to an agreement about how we can make things better. Were going to have to let our guards down. Were going to have to be vulnerable to each other. And were going to have to find a way to accept that which we find ugliest in each other. We are HUMAN, together. We are STRONG, together. The police are not the enemy. Black youth are not the enemy. Rioters are not the enemy. Politicians are not the enemy. Our enemy is GLITCHES within the SYSTEM that we rely on for balance and stability. We could rip it to pieces and start over, or we could tend to the one that we have in a way that we havent before, but if we dont want it to be violent then we have to find our common ground. Find common ground. Stop being afraid of each other. Open up, express kindness, share your bounty. Or burn, I guess. If youd rather do that, sure, why not. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, at the end of the day its all just a big, silly game. Its just more fun to play it with friends, dont you think?
