Dont expect everyone to understand your journey. Especially if theyve never had to walk your path. This is especially true when it comes to grief. One of the most valuable lessons I learned is the understanding that grief is intensely personal. People who offer comfort by saying they understand what you are going through mean well, but the reality is they have no idea. True, they may have lost a parent, a friend, a child, a spouse, just like you, but they didnt have the relationship with the person you lost. That is personal. Now when I have a friend in grief I just hug them and let them know I care. I dont say much unless they want to talk. Being available is what matters... Sometimes what you need is just to understand...
