Dont fall for Rick Perrys PR team explanation for his illegal attacks on the Travis Co DA. The root of why he wanted her to resign is because her office heads up the Public Integrity Unit, which is responsible for investigating politician misconduct and previously nailed Perrys buddy, Tom Delay, and put him in prison orange. The Travis County DA is elected, and it has been a Democratic position for a LONG time; if she resigned, Perry got to appoint her successor, who certainly would have been Republican and a little more blind to the misdeeds of Perrys pals. THAT is why Perry wanted Lehmberg out, and the DUI was just an opportunity for him to go after her. When the lawsuit filed by his buddy and failed 2008 contender for DA, Rick Reed, didnt succeed in ousting her the legal way, Perry thought he would bully her into resigning using the power of the veto, which he VERY illegally misused to deny funding to her office. He got caught, and hes facing the music now. Lets not confuse the real motive behind his actions. It was a desperate move by a politician who thought he couldnt be held accountable.
