Dont fall for the copy + paste stupidity of thinking that by posting a statement here on Facebook will keep your likeness and information from being used for commercial purposes... the truth is, Facebook basically OWNS whatever you put on here. My buddy Darren Hanser put it well this morning when he said: For anyone posting notices to facebook saying they cant use your private info... thinking this actually has any legally binding effect... You simply dont understand a few key facts. Truth is... The only way you can keep your personal info private (browsing history, photos, videos, chat and message details, status updates, any website posts or blog posts you click like on....) Is to NOT do it. Close your facebook account for good and never open one again. Never click like or share or comment on anything. Basically be a silent internet user. The fact you are ON facebook and using their service (which you dont own) is the exact reason they have the right to use your info. Read the terms, privacy policy etc... theyre there for a reason. Facebook isnt mandatory. Its a voluntary site you are choosing to use. And Facebook is a For Profit company. So they take your information (because you authorized them to when you signed up) and advertisers (like me) use that information to sell things to you. Look around. Sponsored posts, ads for t shirts and razors and anything under the sun... Those ads arent randomly shown. Theyre ultra targeted based on your activity. So every time you click like or comment on a website using facebook comments you voluntarily give us advertisers more data to use. Its a part of the game. So either accept it and have fun... or hate it and stay off of facebook. Or learn how it works and profit from it.
