Dont let them look down on you! 1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. It has been very encouraging to see young people rallying together for Justice. There is a diverse group of young people; black; white; Latino; east coast, west coast marching and participating in Die ins to protest the killing of black men. This past weekend I had to give the eulogy of Jarmelle Jo-Jo Jones, a 26 year old young man that was a leader in Memphis, Tennessee and was murdered by two young thieves. He was a Christian, a business man, a party promoter, and a great human being. He had over 3,000 young people at his funeral. Most of them were Twenty-Somethings. It was ironic because that is the generation that is rapidly leaving the church and the faith. I was able to speak life into them and challenge them to pick up where Jo-Jo left off. They have to set an example. Paul encouraged his young protege Timothy not to fall way from the faith as many of his peers were doing and not to let anyone look down on him because he was young. Instead Paul told young Timothy to: 1. Set an example for others. Twenty-Somethings are the lynchpin for our society. How they go, we go. We need our young people to lead the way so we can get this country right. Many of them are leading peaceful protests against violence and murder. We need young people to stand up against murder and violence in Memphis so no more Jo-Jos are killed before their time. 2. Set an example in what you say. Every word you speak in person, on Facebook, IG, snapchat should be something that is uplifting and beneficial toward others finding God. 3. Set an example in the way you live. You only live once. Make your life matter! Dont waste your life. Make the world better than you found it. 4. Set an example in the way that you love. Love is active and not passive. You will be remembered for how you treated people. 5. Set an example in your Faith. Faith without good deeds is dead. Dont abandon your faith. In these hard times when justice seems to be elusive and our country is split, dont lose your faith but use your faith. We need you! Young people come back to God and come back to church. Dont let anyone look down upon you but you look up to God. Dear God, Use our young people to turn this Nation around. They are pulled in so many directions. Lead them back to you so they can lead this nation forward. Cover our youth. In Jesus Name, Amen
