Don’t Keep Up With the Jones (My Daily Devotion for Sat, 24 Aug 2013, & I really like this one): “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.” Proverbs 15:27 (KJV) There is wisdom in learning to live below your means. Growing up, I would hear older people constantly advise me to not buy things I couldn’t afford or try to “keep up with the Jones”. I didn’t give any attention to their counsel. My husband and I sought to have big houses and big cars before we could truly afford it and those days were extremely stressful. We learned that there is something much more valuable to life than having stuff–having a peace of mind. Choose to live below your means and you will bring great peace and rest into your home. Prayer: Father God, I thank You for the wisdom You give. Your desire is that I live in peace, not stressed out because I’m trying to have something before time. Help me operate in wisdom financially and have peace in my home. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
