Presents: Free Screening of Water & Power, the feature film debut from writer/director, Richard Montoya, Thursday, May 1 When: Thursday, May 1, 2014 7 p.m. – Screening of film 8:30 p.m. – Panel Discussion with Creative Team Where: SAG-AFTRA James Cagney Board Room - Lobby Level 5757 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90036 Parking will be validated. You are invited to attend a free screening of Water & Power, the feature film debut from writer/director Richard Montoya. The film is based on his award-winning play of the same name which was originally produced at the Mark Taper Forum for Culture Clash. Water & Power was shot over 12 extraordinary nights in Los Angeles. The film tells the story of two brothers nicknamed Water and Power by their hard-working father who was an irrigation field man for the famed Department of Water & Power of Los Angeles (LADWP). From the blue-collar housing projects of the city’s Eastside, to the very corridors of power where deals are made in the City of Angels, Water & Power explores a cautionary tale with a Chicano twist. Water & Power is told in the classic L.A. noir style with a darkly humorous tone, a hallmark for which Montoya is known in theater and television. Click here to RSVP. Spaces are limited. You must RSVP to attend. Questions? Call (323) 634-8277. These GSA contracts are signed outside of SAG-AFTRA’s protection, and it is imperative that members have a working knowledge of what these contracts say before signing them—your professional future and your income may depend on it. This educational seminar will be especially helpful to any member having trouble making sense of the complicated legal language contained in the GSAs that their agents have provided them. We urge all SAG-AFTRA members to attend. The event will not be taped, nor will any kind of recording device be permitted. Please bring writing materials or a laptop with you in order to take extensive notes. RSVP ESSENTIAL: Email [email protected] and reference “SAG-AFTRA GSA Seminar-Reservation” in subject line and indicate you are participating from the Los Angeles Local. Members must have a valid SAG-AFTRA ID to be permitted entry to this event. Only those members who have received confirmation emails from SAG-AFTRA may attend, so please act quickly as seating is limited. Over the last 15 years film and TV production has decreased in California. This decrease in film and TV work negatively affects the state and local economy. Not only are jobs and revenue lost for those working directly for the productions, but jobs and revenue are also lost for the businesses supporting productions: dry cleaners, chauffeurs, caterers and countless others. Film and television production is a major source of jobs and economic vitality in California and we need to urge policymakers to keep it that way. SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local leaders, along with our alliance partners, believe it is imperative that the Legislature and Administration take decisive steps to retain an industry that serves as a vital source of jobs, tax revenue and economic opportunity. Sign the petition and register as a Film Works supporter!
