Don’t Spare The Rod - Pro. 13:24, 22:6 & 15; Heb. 12:5-11 Everyone in the position of authority must know that a rod of correction and training is one of his divine tools of operation. Correction is not punishment rather it is a sign of love. Training may not be palatable on the flesh, but it is the tool, of empowerment so people in leadership should not feel guilty of applying the rod of training or correction where necessary. As a parent, you should know that God is holding you responsible for the training and correction of your children. It is your responsibility to train your children in the way they should go. The moral decadence we are seeing in our nation today is as a result of parents neglecting the training and correction of their children. Some parents are just too weak and emotional while some are so busy that they left the training of their children in the hands of house helps, while a lot of children are getting their life values and models from the television and internet. Parents have no time to check what their children are watching, doing, wearing and which association they keep. God expects that children will be trained in the house (family). There are two kinds of houses; the physical family and the house of redemption (church). When the physical house fails, God always looks to the church for rescue and redemption and that is why heaven cannot afford the church also to fail. So as kingdom leaders, we must be conscious of the awesome task upon us and provide sound and godly leadership for the people God has put in our care. If every kingdom leader and father has been living out this divine expectation, we will not be seeing what we are seeing today in our society, but some fathers are sparing the rod somewhere. They are not willing to take their followers through the road that made them who they are today and you are not a success without a right successor. I do say that we cannot rate your success now with what you have become or the impact you are currently making but what happens when you have finished and gone is your true test! Elijah produced Elisha that carried double portion of his anointing while Elisha produced Gehazi that carried double portion of leprosy, Jesus Christ left the twelve apostles behind that put the whole world on fire which the world has not recovered from till date; that is success brother! What kind of people are you raising now? Would they enhance your achievements or terminated them when you are gone? Prayer: I get rid of every weak and emotional tendency that can make me spare the rod where necessary. I will not be guilty of sparing the rod where it is expected in Jesus’ name.
