Don’t be complacent about voting! Request vote by mail ballots for yourself as well as for family members by contacting the Broward Supervisor of Elections at 954-357-7050 or browardsoe.org/AbsenteeRequest2.aspx 10 Reasons Why You Should Vote By Mail! Voting by mail is the same thing as voting by absentee ballot, but you dont have to be absent to vote by mail. The ballot comes to your home 30 days before the election, and you can take as much time as you need to fill it out. And then you just return it to the Broward County Supervisor of Elections. 1. Voting by mail eliminates the percentage of people who never get around to vote due to a bad day at work, a car accident, illness, domestic drama, or a tragic event, like a death in the family! It is a very easy way for elderly or less able family members to vote. 2. You don’t have to wait in a cumbersome line! These ballots are usually long and take considerable time to fill out, and depending on how your precinct is set up, there may be long lines moving at a snail’s pace. 3. You won’t be contributing to long lines that might turn others away! While you may be willing to wait three or more hours to vote, others may not be willing to wait. Shorter lines increase the percentage of voters who actually vote. 4. In Florida, your vote by mail ballot will definitely be counted. Other states do not count their absentee ballots unless the election is close. Florida is different. Not only does Florida count all the absentee ballots, it counts them first. 5. You can vote in the comfort of your home, in your underwear with a glass of wine! 6. Voting by mail allows you can take the time to research or discuss the issues with someone you trust. Hopefully thats your partner! There are always issues on the ballot that people arent prepared to deal with. 7. Voting by mail so that all eligible voters get to vote helps the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates, while voter suppression benefits the Republicans. This is especially true when they make it more difficult to vote in highly Democratic counties like Broward, where Democrats outnumber Republicans by more than two to one! 8. Youll have fewer phone calls and door knocks. Once your ballot has been sent in, volunteers are much less likely to call you or knock on your door. You might like this, but it also benefits the Democratic Party, since fewer people who have not voted need to be chased. 9. Verify that your local Supervisor of Elections received the ballot! People feel much more secure about voting by mail once they know that a few days after the ballot has been sent, they can go to the Supervisor of Elections website and verify that they received it! 10. Enrollment doesnt mean you forfeit going to the polls if you change your mind. Simply bring your absentee ballot to the precinct where they will officially void it and allow you to vote there.
