Don’t be surprised if you see a poor person being oppressed by the powerful and if justice is being miscarried throughout the land. For every official is under orders from higher up, and matters of justice get lost in red tape and bureaucracy. Even the king milks the land for his own profit! Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers! People who work hard sleep well, whether they eat little or much. But the rich seldom get a good night’s sleep. There is another serious problem I have seen under the sun. Hoarding riches harms the saver. Money is put into risky investments that turn sour, and everything is lost. In the end, there is nothing left to pass on to one’s children. We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us. (Ecclesiastes 5:8-15 NLT) Father God, why do we pursue riches, power, and fame, instead of You, the Author and Creator of all things? Why do we devote all of our time, energy, and attention on things that dont last, things that evaporate before our eyes, things that control us, things that steal our hearts? The saying is true, We CANT take it with us! Help us to focus on You, Jesus, the Lover of our souls! Help us to realize that You are enough! You are everything we need! You are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Author and Finisher of our faith, the soon coming King! Open our eyes and our understanding, Father God, to see clearly and fully realize what is truly important in this life! Let You be our goal! Let You be our riches! Let You be our prize! If we put You first, on the throne of our hearts, You WILL give us the desires of our heart! We want to see Your glory! But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33 KJV) Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:6-10 NLT) You will be called priests of the Lord, ministers of our God. You will feed on the treasures of the nations and boast in their riches. Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours. (Isaiah 61:6, 7 NLT) The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. (Haggai 2:8 KJV)
