Don’t violate Electoral Act, APGA warns INEC The All Progressives Grand Alliance has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to comply strictly with the constitution and the Electoral Act as it prepares for the 2015 general elections. The party also expressed optimism that the New Year would be “promising and filled with great economic advancement, peaceful political millieu and socio-religious harmony.” The National Director of Publicity in APGA, Mr. Ifeanacho Oguejiofor, in a New Year message on Wednesday in Abuja, advised that instead of provocative comments capable of setting the country on fire, politicians should make their campaigns explicit and issue-based, while their debates should be factual and thought-provoking.” He said, “Political parties should woo the electorates for their votes and jostle to win elections for various elective positions in the forthcoming 2015 general elections; they should make their campaigns explicit and issue-based, their debates should be factual and thought-provoking and their criticisms sincere and constructive for an enduring democratic culture so that the electorates will be able to make a well informed choice as they cast their votes. “INEC should make all the votes count, be zero-tolerant to election rigging and adhere strictly to the rules guiding the electoral conduct. The commission should give all the political parties a level-playing field so that the winners that will emerge after the 2015 general elections will be an absolute reflection of all the votes cast by the electorates at the various polling booths across Nigeria.” Oguejiofor said, “It was incumbent on INEC to ensure that the winners at the election would be true representatives of the people who will serve the interest of Nigerians, rather than that of a few privileged individuals and godfathers.” APGA specifically cautioned Nigerians to guard against provocative utterances, unlawful acts and unpatriotic statements capable of putting the corporate existence of Nigeria into jeopardy. The party noted that terrorism should not be politicised, stressing that Nigerians have the duty of playing their part positively to stamp out terrorism. Oguejiofor said, “APGA wants all Nigerians to be aware that the present terrorist activities of the Boko Haram sect is a national malady which poses serious challenge, great difficulties and grievous threat to our national security, economic development and one sovereignty. “Thus, APGA demands that all Nigerians, no matter their state of origin or place of abode, political leaning or interest, religious affiliation or association and other sundry interests, should support, co-operate and assist the security agencies and the Federal Government to overcome this monster of violence, agent of mayhem, behemoth of destruction and gruesome death which has left many Nigerian families desolate, despondent and destitute in their own country.” Copyright PUNCH.All rights reserved.
