Dookeran endorsed no one, says COP Election Commission Meanwhile, the Election Commission of the Congress of the People issued a statement yesterday in which it clarified comments regarding the alleged endorsement by political leader Winston Dookeran. The Commission noted that on May 28, Dookeran said he would not endorse any candidate as all candidates should face the full scrutiny of the membership at the polls. According to the news release: “At recent joint platform meetings, one of the candidates, in response to questions from the floor with regard to his decision to contest, indicated that he was asked by Mr Dookeran to run for the leadership post. “The Commission understands that Mr Dookeran prior to his announcement not to contest had met Prakash Ramadhar, Vernon De Lima and Carolyn Seepersad Bachan, concerning the issue of leadership and their interest in contesting. “Mr Dookeran has confirmed to the Commission that this must not be construed or misrepresented as an endorsement by any candidate and that they should contest and face the full scrutiny of the membership through the joint platform debates, hosted by the Election Commission.” The statement, which was signed by chairman Vallence Rambharat, stated that it concluded that no candidate ought to conclude that Mr Dookeran was besieging anyone to run for the leadership post, as it is being claimed on the platform.
