Dooley Noted: 7/29/14 The Strength of a Woman The first woman to ever make me feel strong was my mother. She grew up on a farm. She worked in a factory. Her body was pretty jacked. She didnt eat much. She was always moving. She put up with no ones bull. She showed me that people will think what they want. She told me to mind my own business. She told me to think for myself. When a boy canceled a date by first dropping by, she noted, Not worth your Friday night, Jo. When I fell, she never babied me. She said, Are you alright, Jo? Okay, then get back up. When tough things happened, she offered minimal pity. She told me to suck it up. When she had a cerebral blood vessel disorder nearly kill her, she looked me in the face and said, It could be worse, Jo. She was stern. She had no tolerance for small talk or bull. And she is still all of those things. Today is her 65th birthday. For her Medicare birthday, I get to take her best friend and her to Vegas. I get to actually give back to the woman who gave me so much. Because of her - I am a woman who chose strength. She was strong. And I was watching. Kids are always watching. Im lucky you chose strength, too, Mamacita. As for all the other folks, its their call. - Dr. Kathy Dooley drdooleynoted/the-strength-of-a-woman/
