Dorothy Britt Altman Sawyer Mrs. Dorothy Britt Altman Sawyer, 93, of Gadsden died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Britt, she was born April 20, 1920 in Marion. Mrs. Sawyer was first married to P.S. Altman with whom she had three daughters in Dillon and Pamplico. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Sawyer moved to Marion to help care for her parents. After their deaths she returned to Pamplico to make her new home with her oldest daughter and family. She later married Albert Sawyer and moved to Columbia. Upon the death of Mr. Sawyer, she made her home with her youngest daughter and family in Gadsden. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Sawyer was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Ann Altman Poston of Pamplico and her son-in-law, R.L. Clifton of Aynor and the following siblings and spouses: Frank Britt (Miriam) of Marion, Rachel Moody (Herman) of Sumter, W.B. Britt, Jr. (Reba) of Houma, Louisiana, Gladys Lett (John D. Sr.) of Marion, Horace Britt of Norfolk, Virginia and sister-in-law, Imogene Britt of Marion. She is survived by her daughters, Connie Altman Clifton of Aynor and Jennifer Altman McKissick (Burnette) of Gadsden; her son-in-law, Donald Poston (Kathleen) of Pamplico and her sister-in-law, Carolyn D. Britt of Norfolk, Virginia; her grandchildren, Phillip Clifton (Claudia) of Gloucester, Va., Melissa Sturdivant (Rodney) of Coleman, Texas, Drew McKissick and Shane McKissick of Columbia, Pam Poston Harris (Tim) of Effingham, Britt Poston (Elizabeth) of Florence and Jimmy Poston (Nancy) of Florence; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Britt of Marion; and a sister, Martha B. (Jamie) Dozier of Marion. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, October 25, from 1:30 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Smith-Collins Funeral Home, followed by burial at Woodside Cemetery in Pamplico. Mrs. Sawyer’s family will be grateful forever to extended family members Susan Oliver, Louise Oliver and Lucy Sypult for the love and care given their mother and to the staff of Whiteoak Manor for their professional care.
