Dosto At BUC.......Chitragupt (16 November 1917 - 14 January 1991) was born in Bihar. He was an Indian film music director of the 1950s and 1960s in Hindi cinema. Today is his 97th birth anniversary. A good singer and lyricist too. Had worked with major lyricists of the time - Majrooh Sultanpuri, Rajinder Krishan, Anand Bakshi, Prem Dhawan and even Sahir Ludhianvi. Assisted S.N. Tripathi for some time and later parted due to some working style differences. SD Burman recomended him to AVM. Itney achey gaaneys came from AVM Productions. Later worked with other big names too such as Mohan Sehgal, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, G P Sippy, Kishore Sahu to name a few. There are countless beautiful compositions of Chitragupt that he has left for us. Even aaj bi am enjoying these. Some of the best duets are also coming from Chitragupt. Laagi toote na ab to sanam... sung by Mohd. Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar from Kali Topi Laal Rumal as just one example. Also same singers Teri duniya se door chale hoke majboor humein yaad rakhna... from Zabak is another... Chitragupt suffered a heart attack in 1968 and a paralytic stroke in 1974. He died on the 14th of January 1991. His sons Anand-Milind are also noted Bollywood music directors. Had worked as assistant music directors with their father for eight years. This was from Barkha 1959 with Rajinder Krishan ki superb lyrics. Kya melody hai created by Chitragupt for this..
