Dosto At BUC ......Composer Khemchand Prakash ( 12 December 1907 - 10 August 1950) ki 107 th birth anniversary hai aaj. Born in Jaipur. Died at an early age of 42 . He was one of the pioneers of the Golden Era of Hindustani Film Music. His debut as music director started in 1939 and did about 49 films between 1939 and 1952.He was one of the leading music directors of the 1940s. His contemporaries were Ghulam Haider, C. Ramchandra, Anil Biswas and Naushad. He was also a singer early days. However, his contribution to the film industry was not as a singer but as a music composer. His work in movies like Mahal (1949) , Tansen (1943) , Ziddi (1948) and Chalte Chalte (1947) , Jan Pahchan ( 1950 ) was an inspiration to several music composers. It was Tansen (1943) that established Prakash as a master tunesmith. Sung by the unmatchable K.L. Saigal and Khursheed Begum, the film’s music remains a classic in Hindi cinema. Though Tansen (1943) demanded a strictly classical score, Khemchand Prakash adapted traditional music to come up with lilting numbers for Kamal Amrohi’s Mahal (1949) . Khemchand Prakash is also credited with discovery of Kishore Kumar as a singer, for the song “Marne ki duaaen kyun maangu in Ziddi (1948). He later also gave Lata Mangeshkar her break in Mahal (1949). Mahal probably is Khemchand Prakash’s best work at the peak of his career.Aayega Aanewala from Mahal became a rage, a sensation. His music in Mahal was considered extraordinary, in terms of its melodies, use of sounds and orchestration. Javed Akhtar quoted Khemchand Prakashs name in his maiden speech in Rajya Sabha on May 17, 2012 by mentioning that Khemchand Prakashs wife had lived in a state of penury. She had to beg to be able to survive in her last days. This was in context of royalty payments that should be paid out. Sad indeed.
