Dosto At BUC... Madam Noor Jehan (21 September 1926 – 23 December 2000) ki 14th year ki death anniversary hai aaj. Born in Kasur, Punjab. She left this mortal life for the Hereafter (our permanent Home) at the age of 74 some 14 years ago. Her exit from this world took place whilst she was residing in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Was both a singer and actress. Born as Allah Wasai (name given), one of the eleven children of a professional musicians husband wife team. Her parents wanted her to follow in their musical footsteps and become a singer. She however was more interested in acting in films and graced the earliest Pakistani films with her performances. She has acted in 69 movies from from 1932 to 1947. She however ruled the film industry for more than 35 years as continued making more movies even after partition in 1947 and had moved to Pakistan. She married film director Syed Shaukat Hussain Rizvi in 1943. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Rizvi and Jehan decided to move to Pakistan.Later also made some 14 films in Pakistan, with four in Punjabi . Both were divorced in 1953/4 with three children. She remarried again in 1959 with another actor, Ejaz Durrani, who was 9 years her junior. This marriage also produced three children but sadly ended in divorce too in later years (1979). Noor Jehan finally bade farewell to acting in 1963 and took up playback singing. Not only was she a celebrated playback singer but also a gifted ghazal singer. She was given the honorific title of Malika-e-Tarannum or The queen of melody by the President of Pakistan in 1957. Had sung appropriately ten thousand songs for Hindi, Urdu‚ Punjabi and Sindhi films. Upon reflection, she sang film songs for over 40 years. Her singing career spanned from the 1930s to the early 1990s, when her doctors advised her to quit singing due to her poor health and age. In 2000, Jehan was hospitalised in Karachi after suffering from a heart attack. However her end came on 23 December 2000 as a result of heart failure. She is buried at the Gizri Graveyard near the Saudi Consulate in Karachi. Will like to dedicate this to the memory of madam Noor Jehan. Composer Naushad / Lyricist Tanvir Naqvi.
