Dosto At BUC.......Shailendra (full Shankardas Kesarilal) (30 August 1923 – 14 December 1966) a popular Hindi lyricist left this world, some 47 years ago today. Gone forever but never forgotten. Even aaj bi his written songs remain top most favourites of mine and am sure many of you my esteemed friends.... Born in Rawalpindi, he started his career as an apprentice with Indian Railways,which brought him to Mumbai (Bombay then) in 1947. Year of partition ? Poetry was his first love. The team of Raj Kapoor, Shailendra and Shankar-Jaikishan went on to produce many hit songs. He also colloborated with composers Salil Chowdhary, Sachin Dev Burman, Ravi , film makers Bimal Roy, Dev Anand and many others. His poetic genius was in his ability to convey deepest of thoughts in simplest of words. Aur the words bi kya words....xxxx Sun lo piya pyare kya kehtey hain tarey...xxxxx He won the Filmfare award for Best Lyricist thrice. Out of the three two were won in consecutive years. The first came in 1958 for the song Ye mera deewanapan hai from the film Yahudi. The second in 1959 for the evergreen Sab kuch seekha humne from Anari. In 1968 Shailendra won it again for the third time for Main gaaun tum so jaao, from Brahmachari. Shailendra had invested heavily in the production of the movie Teesri Kasam (1966). It was a commercial failure. His falling health resulting from tensions associated with that film production and anxiety due to financial loss, ultimately took its toll on Shailendra and on 14 Dec 1966, he breathed his last. He has written so many wonderful songs. Eek se badhkar eek. Will like to remember him with this lovely romantic evergreen Rafi / Asha duet by Composer SD Burman from 1959 Insaan Jaag Utha with Madhubala, Sunil Dutt...
