Double Play Article: New Year, New Ideas A new year brings a fresh start. It is so Americana I think. New beginnings, second chances, chasing new dreams, ideas, and resolutions of change, these notions flood the airwaves and print advertising. Many of them trying to stir up new business but the concepts at heart are sincere. Sometimes we all just need a new beginning, a do over, or re-boot so to speak. It is no secret how fast life appears to dissipate like sand in an hour glass, each sand particle trickling through the narrowed tube almost in rhythm with each breath we take. Having a designated time when we all look at that glass and turn it to a New Year offers a refreshing outlook on life for many. We are afforded the opportunity to review our previous year’s attempts to reach goals, change our lives, or help others change for the better. While each of us see the world in so many different ways, as humans we can all reflect on how to improve something in various areas of our lives or where we live with every New Year. How about looking at unification for a new outlook this year? What does that mean? Well it is the process of being united or made into a whole. In other words union, merger, or fusion. Why would I bring this into my New Year’s resolution and reflections? Like anything we do in life it takes a great deal of people with common goals and similar motivations to bring real change. One can look at our political system and see the struggle they have on a daily basis. Here in Lewis County it is our time and our responsibility to unite for a common goal and a project we all agree can help people age 3 to 93. Great ideas and projects happen only when the greater good and majority can benefit. 2015 will be the year Double Play embarks upon a capital campaign that will change the landscape and fabric of the County forever. A community center venue that provides activities and programs to meet the needs of residents from toddlers through senior citizens is within our grasp. The project impacts everyone in our area providing opportunities for employment, education, enrichment, recreation, and wellness. Keeping in mind we as a whole can create our own quality of life when brought together for a common goal. This is our time, our responsibility, and our community. Double Play Community Center is now developing a committee of 35-40 people strong to begin outlining a campaign that will include every corner of Lewis County. Our mission is to incorporate how the center can help provide a better quality of life for everyone. Be it through our community center project or by providing satellite programming to their town, Double Play is committed to positive change for everyone. Please consider to be involved in a project that will change families and individuals for generations to come. Contact me at (315)955-9936 or email me at danmyers@doubleplaycc for more information. Together it will happen!
