Doubt, Doubts . . . (noun) uncertainty of belief or opinion; lack of confidence; distrust. Mark 11:23; Luke 24:38; Romans 14:23; Matthew 14:31; Matthew 21:21 We have all had moments of doubt; doubt that the pay check will arrive on time, doubt that we will get that job we applied for or that promotion you were promised and so on. How many times have you said to yourself or heard another say, “I can’t or I’m know I cannot do this?” How many times have you said this to yourself? I know I can say with no uncertainty, I am guilty of all of the above. In Mark 11:21-23 (NIV2) Jesus is preaching to His disciples and lets them know that if they pray (and they can pray for anything – we can pray for anything) and believe they can move mountains. 22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly6 I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” 26 7 This kind of prayer shows us that God can do the impossible and Jesus wanted to illustrate to the “doubters” that with God all things are possible with your heart and attitude in the right place. It is easy to believe also that we are praying for something with the right heart and attitude but in truth, deep down we have other motives. So the next time you are praying for something in your life to move, be sure you meet the following: (1) you must be a believer (2) you must not hold a grudge against another person and this can be nothing more than praying so that others may see things the way we do. I’ve done this myself and had the Holy Spirit smack me on the back of my head to correct me in love. (3) You must not pray with selfish motives – see 2 for details if you missed it. (4) Your request must be for the good of God’s Kingdom. When you pray get your focus on God not on the request or the object of your request. You will be disappointed for sure. But if your faith rests in God KNOWING He will do what He sees in His will for your life, it will be done. We may think we know what is best for us but we are looking at a speck of significance whereas God sees ALL, knows ALL and can do ALL. When our prayers are motivated by our own interests, our own wants and desires, we will be left empty but Jesus gives us a great example of this in Mark 14:36 (NIV2) where He must have been scared out of His mind knowing what was coming and yet He surrendered to the will of Abba and not His own will as we read below: 36 “Abba,6 Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Take some time this week to read through the verses listed above and become familiar with how doubt creeps in and twists what we think we are taking before the throne. And remember not everything you pray for will be granted to you. God knows what will hurt you, bring you pain and desperation and frustration. He can see it. You cannot and in order for the request to be fulfilled you must be in harmony with God’s plan and His principals for you and the Kingdom. Be blessed and rest in His will for your life today. Much Love, Jerri
