Douglas-Southeast Arizona Medical Center (SAMC) is in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and any of the bills owed by the hospital has been dropped by the court. SAMC is asking for financial help from the city and county to receive matching funds to help apply for federal funding. The board also wants to build a new facility away from its current rural location. Mario Novoa, the Douglas Fire Chief stated in a letter, "the department will take appropriate steps to continue providing emergency transportation if the hospital should close."
