Downs close in on Maritzburg pair The player exodus at Maritzburg United appears set to continue with Mario Booysen and Rheece Evans likely to sign for Mamelodi Sundowns in the coming days. United chairman Farouk Kadodia confirmed that negotiations were at “advanced stages” and that he would be in the market to get “one or two” players on loan from the newly crowned PSL champions in return. Booysen, formerly of SuperSport United, has been massive for Maritzburg over the past two seasons with his composed tactical awareness, strength and aerial ability while Evans has flourished at right-back where he has carved a reputation as one of the quickest full-backs in the League. Bryce Moon, out of favour at Sundowns towards the end of the 2013/14 campaign and from Pietermaritzburg, would be of certain interest to Kadodia should Sundowns make him available for a loan move. “If he is made available and Steve is interested, then we would look at him,” Kadodia tells KickOff. Maritzburg, who have pledged their future to the Midlands after turning down an offer to relocate to Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, are yet to unveil any new faces. “The process of bringing players in is a little bit slower,” he says. “In the next few days we will start making some announcements and hopefully by the first of next month we will have six or seven new players.” Towards the end of last season Komphela released Delron Buckley, Dillon Sheppard and Robyn Johannes. Since then the Team of Choice have lost club captain Michael Morton to SuperSport, Ruben Cloete to Bloemfontein Celtic, Orlando Smeekes, Mohamed Yakubu, Peter Petersen (all released) as well as influential playmaker Bhongolwethu Jayiya, who has returned to Wits after a loan spell.
