Downton Abbey...my 1st time to watch it.....ever. My head hurts and my ears are ringing. My head, because I feel like an outsider who walked into the lives of a bunch of people who have relationships with dynamics I know absolutely nothing about. My ears, because Ive always struggled to understand British accents...theyre somewhat unintelligible to me, especially since I struggle with a hearing loss that relates to speech. Grateful for my rewind button. Having no previous knowledge of this series, Im assuming it centers around the lives of British aristocrats and their inner circle.....servants, friends, etc. Further, it obviously has the political & social climate of that era woven into its fabric. I dont doubt that it is worthy of its masterpiece status, but its tough to navigate with no background (my opinion). I guess I was looking for something - anything to connect the dots somewhere along the way. Okay D.A. fans....no haters, but I will take advice on how to like this series......Wait! FINALLY - the 2nd hour was a breath of fresh air. A narrative EXPLAINING who-what-how-why. That helped.
