Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi For Muslim Youth: Militancy the gateway to Hell Fire Militancy is called Albagyu in Islamic jurisprudence - i.e fiqh. Yes, the contemporary Islamic militant groups are all such formations that resort to violence and use of arms outside the whelms of a constituted authority. If you are a muslim militant today with just the intention to kill, it doesnt matter whether you are killed or you killed, you are going to end up in Jahannamah - the Hell fire. So repent quickly before you kill or you are killed. The Quran, the Hadith and the interpretations of the Salaf -which is the only correct interpretation of Islam- are all categorical that any muslim who kills himself or another muslim or a non-Muslim under peace treaty with any muslim that such a Muslim is going to Hell. And among men is he whose speech about the life of this world causes you to wonder, and he calls on Allah to witness as to what is in his heart, yet he is the most violent of adversaries. * And when he turns back, he runs along in the land that he may cause mischief in it and destroy the tilth and the stock, and Allah does not love mischief-making. * And when it is said to him, guard against (the punishment of) Allah; pride carries him off to sin, therefore hell is sufficient for him; and certainly it is an evil resting place. Q 2/204-206 By analogy, it goes without saying that the destruction of humans and their civilization is worst than destroying the tilth and the stock. Bombing people going about their businesses in houses of worship, busses, trains, aircrafts, buildings and markets all in the name of Islamic jihad falls into this category. The perpetrators are pure murderers that tag themselves Islamic to get the sympathy of the naive Muslim ummah. Just in the same sense the old militants wanted to deceive the Prophet by the display of piety. They are youth who falsely display piety, who fake religiosity and fraudulently show devotion. In Islam there should be no amnesty for them until they surrender and repent. In a Hadith narated by both Albuhari and Muslim: (See Sahih Muslim, Volume 1, Hadith No. 2455) The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: There would arise at the end of the Times, a people who would be young in age and immature in thought, but they would talk (in such a manner) as if their words are the best among the creatures. They would recite the Quran, but it would not go beyond their throats, and they would pass through the religion as an arrow goes through the prey. So when you meet them, kill them, for in their killing you would get a reward with Allah on the Day of judgment. In another Hadith, the Noble Prophet said: whosoever will kill any soul of non-Muslim under peace treaty will never smell the fragrance of Paradise which can be found from a distance of forty years Narrated by Al-Bukhari. In todays contemporary world, all nations are under covenant of peace. If therefore some irrational youth would want to create another state within these states they must first fight and kill Muslims and non-Muslims that are under peace accords alike. Killing these souls alone condemns them to eternity in Hell. Idolatry is the worst deviation in Islam, yet the early Muslims were prevented from taking over Mecca despite all provocations and suppression in fear of trampling upon weak Muslims that were not able to migrate to Medina -the new capital- in case of a military attack. It is they who disbelieved and turned you away from the Sacred Mosque and (turned off) the offering withheld from arriving at its destined place; and were it not for the believing men and the believing women, whom, not having known, you might have trodden down, and thus something hateful might have afflicted you on their account without knowledge-- so that Allah may cause to enter into His mercy whomsoever He pleases; had they been widely separated one from another, We would surely have punished those who disbelieved from among them with a painful punishment. Which implies; let the House of God be desecrated with idols than kill Muslims in trying to purify it. Today let Muslims be alive than killing them in trying to erect a phantom caliphate. It also indicates that when Muslims and non-Muslims are unavoidably intermixed its a mercy of Allah that some may see His light. When will we learn that the original caliphate decayed and became obliterated because Islam, the religion which it is suppose to protect outgrew it. Like the parable of the egg. The eggshell which is the protector and fortress of the chick while in the york stage, becomes the element of its destruction and annihilation after the chick is well formed. The caliphate after the golden Era turned into a nightmare especially for Islamic scholars - the heirs of prophets - until when it came to a naught today. Yet Islam continues to spread beyond borders without the State. Allah Promised to protect the religion but not the state which shows that at a stage the state will be dispensable. The state was the eggshell. At a point in its development it became the greatest threat on the religion itself. There were attempts by some caliphs to alter the creed and introduce innovations. For that great scholars like Ahmad were beaten to stupor. If any body will dream of creating a caliphate for the whole ummah today, he needs the same treatment for one that insist a flying bird -for better protection- should be squeezed into an eggshell. Thats for the psychiatrics to deal with. And what has been authentically narrated successively proves that. We are heading towards religious amnesia. Locally we can say today, at one point -just less than some five decades ago- our Sultanate was the stumbling block for the proper understanding of Islam. To perform the water ablution c.f. sand ablution (tayammum) was a big state problem. What is still practiced in some emirates of enslaving free men and women -the Slavery itself abhored- and prostration in reverence to Emirs - are acts that are contrary to the Islamic religion. Thus the democratic system that sets free people and dignify them is more Islamic than the Sultanate or emirate that oppresses. So when some youth will set out to establish a new Caliphate which is historically known with dictatorial tendencies, slavery and persecution of Islamic Scholars, more especially when such action will result in killing Muslims in order to achieve the goal, it will be the height of ignorance that leads directly to Hell fire. But because fikh in Islamic knowledge will be a scarce commodity - Its already as prophesied- many may never hear this stunning facts about Islam. Today looking at the ability and capabilities of the ummah, there is a consensus of Islamic scholars of repute that each fragment of the ummah should maintain its border to avoid bloodshed. For maslaha, Saudis, Egyptians, Iranians, Pakistanis, Nigerians etc. should all maintain their statehood. And whatever form of government that people choose should at least guaranty the five basic cardinals required of Government. That is the protection of lives and wealth, freedom of religion and its propagation, chastity of body and mind. And that any political change should be peaceful. And that only the constituted authority is charged with taking lives under law and justice. In an authentic Hadith, the prophet said: when two Muslims fight with their swords, the killer and the killed are all in Hell. Some companions said: Yes; this is the killer how about the killed? He said: He was also keen in killing his companion. Al-Bukhari and Muslim. Scholars agree that this refers to political clashes however it does not apply to self defense against assailants and robbery. My call to our youth is that they should shun all forms of militancy and militant groups. They should avoid political thuggery. They should rather join the constituted authorities and protect their rights through legal means. Join the military and police to protect your nation and bring peace and stability to all. This is your true endeavor - the Jihad. May Allah open up our minds to understand the truth and protect us from the evil of errant youth and Hell fire. Amin.
