Dr Bilal Philips, who is a well known Wahhabi scholar (trained and funded by Saudi), objected on celebrating the Mawlid by the following statement. (If it is going to bring you closer to Allah, Prophet SAW would have told you to do it) There are dozens of examples from Bukhari and Muslim in which it is stated the Sahabah used to perform certain acts out of Love for the Prophet SAW which he never told them to do and neither did Almighty Allah. 1. Not letting a single hair of the Prophet SAW fall on the ground and collect these for Barakah 2. Catching the water that touched the blessed Body of Prophet SAW during Wudu and drinking it, rubbing it over ones face etc 3. The Prophet SAW once entering the Masjid and seeing some Sahabah gathered. Upon inquiring why they were gathered they stated so they could remember Almighty Allah, thank Almighty Allah for having been blessed by the Prophet SAW. The Prophet SAW never questioned them why were they gathered for this reason when he had never commanded them to do so ! Instead The Prophet SAW said I have come to you to inquire what you are doing because Jibrail came to me and told me that Almighty Allah is boasting of you to the angels So based on the above narrations of Bukhari and Muslim the statement of Philips highlights his willful ignorance (willfully ignorant people are fully aware of facts, resources and sources, but refuse to acknowledge them)
