Dr. Denise Ferreira da Silva will hold a seminar entitled Black Feminist Poethics based on her current research into black feminist literature and scholarship. The gambit of this project is to think through the images of soil and flesh that have provided black feminist writers imaginative resources for diverse historical projects of recovery and reinvention. You are invited to join us as we discuss Hortense Spillers essay Mamas Baby, Papas Maybe and the Introduction to Saidiya Hartmans Scenes of Subjection. Octavia Butlers novel Kindred is a recommended reading. Everyone is welcome. Contact maddie reddon for tips on finding the readings. Dr. Denise Ferreira da Silva is the author of Toward a Global Idea of Race and most recently American Quarterlys Special Issue: Race, Empire, and the Crisis of the Subprime Co-Edited with Paula Chakravartty.
