Dr. J - the gentleman of basketball - released his autobiography - TopicsExpress

Dr. J - the gentleman of basketball - released his autobiography on my birthday, Nov. 5. I had admired his class, team leadership and style of play growing up, rooting for Philadelphia (Jule Pitarresi Lanahan and Jim Lanahan lived right outside the city in Jersey. I visited often. I actually saw Moses Malone in 7-Eleven! I was a New York Knick fan too, for my home state. My nephew Dave and I were just speaking of Julius the other day. The man is now 63, can still dunk a basketball, and harkens back to a lost time in professional sports. A time of no thug tactics or bullying, little trash talk. Respect for fellow players and competitors. Larry Bird, Jabbar among them. I can think of only one bad court scuffle involving Dr. J. Watching Dr. J. on Morning Joe this morning, he recounted the circumstances of his upbringing in the projects and said he stayed out of trouble and temptations around him because he did not want to cause issues for his hardworking mother. Many times over the years, especially while living in Washington, DC, watching Allen Iversons career and off-court misbehavior, I wished Iverson would take a page out of the Doctors book. Instead, he made excuses for himself, his thug friends and unsportsmanlike conduct. This book is on my Christmas List! drjofficial/
