Dr. James Still Historic Office Site & Education Center A COMMUNITY THAT NEVER DISAPPOINTS! While Paint Party Day turned into a paint party of one, with Marnie Lyerly, great (and generous) friend to the Center, its lone painter, the day turned into a community outpouring of other types! Mike Pannarella and Dr. Richard Bucko stopped by to offer their services to restore an upstairs room through paint & polish and create an area dedicated to Native American Indians native to the Medford community through a display of artifacts. (Dr. Stills earliest friends and neighbors were Native Americans.) As they were leaving, Tom Meisse with the HOMERS came by to look at the kitchen porch, in need of repair and paint, to confirm that they will be setting a date soon to take care of that project for us and make it into a display for beautiful hanging plants. Later, a husband & wife, owners of a Lumberton business with 400-450 employees stopped in for a tour to discuss a day of volunteerism they wanted to provide with volunteers from their company that would include a picnic & games for the kids with projects for the parents. More on that as details are confirmed. THEN, THE BROWNIES ARRIVED! (See photo album just posted!) Coming off a clean-up at a local park, they immediately set to work for several hours on the garden along Church Road in front of the fence. Through them, the Center was also offered the donation of an 18th century cradle (perfect for the historic quilt room), and David Dowell stopped by to measure the shed door to build a replacement and brought along handmade custom hinges created by a blacksmith friend just for this purpose! As we were cleaning up for the day, Ray Morgan, our ex officio caretaker, came by and began installing a new flag holder more resistant to the windy corner of the fence. So, while we are still looking for help with the paint (lots to do!), we remain forever grateful for the dozens of community volunteers who stepped up yesterday to make a lasting difference at the Education Center and move us forward in our educational efforts to preserve Dr. Stills legacy. Thank you, thank you!!
