Dr John Schmidt, MD DDS discusses the latest in Minimally Invasive Sinus Surgery. Why suffer with alternating chronic congestion and dripping? Balloon Sinuplasty Balloon sinuplasty, also known as balloon sinus dilation, is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed comfortably in your doctors office with the use of local anesthesia. During the procedure, a thin instrument with a small balloon will be guided through the nasal passages to the treatment site. Once in place, the balloon will be inflated for 5 seconds and then deflated. When dilation is complete, the instrument, with the balloon, will be removed. A typical procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes.i Because balloon sinus dilation gently reshapes the anatomy of the sinus pathways, they remain open and the procedure offers long-term relief from the problems associated with sinusitis.
