Dr Khoza: I thank you for your prompt response to our call regarding the untimely death of Senzo Meyiwa. We are devastated. We had a session with the players this morning where as the Chairman I needed to manage the situation. Its not easy to hold back emotions especially on an event like this one. Senzo was not an ordinary player. He was a national and club captain. It was only natural that there would have been some tears this morning. I encouraged it. I must commend Shakes Mashaba for appointing him as captain. It gives us joy that he was recognised at the highest level. Senzo has been here since he was 13yrs old. And he has written his legacy in this club. He put us on the map around the world. Orlando Pirates is known now continentally and around the world because of his heroics leading up to the CAF final. We wrote a letter to the PSL & to SAFA this morning, with a plea to request postponement of the match with Kaizer Chiefs. We feel that as administrators of football it would be insensitive of us to continue with this game. We are awaiting a response and hope that our plea to the PSL will meet a favourable response. I spoke to my colleague Mr Kaizer Motaung this morning before sending this letter. He concurred with me. Last night at the hospital, there were many players from Kaizer Chiefs which shows you the magnitude of what happened. This fixture is a massive one for the football calendar so we request that we have time to prepare accordingly for arrangements. Shortly after this press conference I will be leaving for Durban to be with the family. I spoke with his father last night for a few hours as he had not yet heard the news. Ill be going to spend time with the family. I must thank Mr Gungubele for being with us throughout the night, lending his support. I would like to also thank the Kaizer Chiefs players who came to support my players at the hospital yesterday as well. To the media, I encourage you to assist us in finding Senzos killers and bringing them to book. Lets assist the police. Use your influence, your contacts. Somebody must know what has happened. Lets remain calm & remain vigilant. If something like this can happen to a national icon, then the rest of us are in deep trouble. It has to be stopped for us all. I ask the media to assist in helping the process unfold correctly. We have a big responsibility to do everything we can here. At this stage we will discuss details with the family & see what needs to be done with all the arrangements.
