Dr. MODUPE ADEFESO-OLATEJU on CloseFlow. She describes as herself as a driven and an articulate professional who is passionate about leveraging her skills, competencies and networks to design and strengthen education partnerships across sub-Saharan Africa. A thoroughbred intellectual armed with triple degrees in Education, she was our Guest this morning as the Founder and MD, The Education Partnership Centre (TEP Centre). TEP Centre is Nigeria’s pioneer education partnership consultancy specializing in the design, implementation, support and evaluation of multi-sectoral partnership programmes in education. She is as passionate about Nigeria as some of the past generations of nationalists who fought for the emancipation of the peoples of the Niger Area. Albeit she was almost in tears painting the dismal picture of our educational system. She advocated for collective commitment of every Nigerian to seek for total reformation of the countrys intellectual development capacities. She lamented how we have not reviewed the criteria for the academic curriculum of our schooling in over four decades - the last review was carried out 44years ago. She couldnt see why Nigerians are alarmed at the huge failures recorded by secondary school students in National and Regional Examinations. She is advocating for mass public information that will motivate the critical mass needed to cause massive change in our educational sector. She sees the poverty of educational system as a gigantic mirror throwing up the ugly images of endemic failures in other aspects of national life. She believes very strongly that the national dialogue on what is Nigeria and who is a Nigerian would be best midwifed if access to quality and effective education for all is first on our priorities. Inspite of these humongous challenges, she sees in the pockets of excellent practices and thorough professionalism dotted across the nation, the nuggets of the critical coalition of civil interests that will change the course of Nigerias history.
