Dr. Mike Toft put the gun up to his shoulder and put the monocular to his eye to make sure he was aiming at the right dog. As he put down the monocular and put the gun sight to his eye, Padme trotted off along the waters edge. Padme is the alpha female African wild dog at the Zimanga Private Reserve. She gave birth to 11 pups a couple years ago and all but 3 of the three females pups were relocated to prevent inter-breeding. If successful darting her, Dr. Toft would tie off one of her fallopian tubes to reduce the number of pups from her next litter. She would then be put in a boma next to the two male wild dogs that were being introduced into the pack of four females for a few days to heel from surgery and to bond with the two male dogs. The boys have been in the boma for a little over a month. After Padme has been modified, the male dogs will be released. Padme was on the move. Dr. Toft will come back another day.
