Dr Ng Eng Hen - Defence Minister informed Parliament in November - TopicsExpress

Dr Ng Eng Hen - Defence Minister informed Parliament in November last year that SAF will support the multinational coalition against ISIS. Singapore has to do so to safeguard our security and protect our way of life here. Recent events in other countries have confirmed that the threat of extremism, if not addressed, can result in attacks anywhere, regardless of geographical distances. More than 40 nations in the coalition are contributing military capabilities to operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, because they recognise that unless the source of this radicalisation is disrupted, their citizens at home cannot be protected. This combined effort has made an impact. A number of key ISIS leaders has been killed, and their territorial expansion plans curtailed. This afternoon, Dr Ng spoke about the progress of the SAFs efforts to suppport the multinational coalition against ISIS at Parliament. The SAF has sent a Needs Assessment and Survey Team to the US Central Command HQ, and we have a liaison officer attached there since Dec 2014 to facilitate planning and coordination. Over the next few months, we will deploy planners and a survey team to prepare for our subsequent deployment of the KC-135R tanker aircraft. Read Dr Ng’s full reply to the parliamentary question:
