Dr. Radhakrishnans Bday: Just like any other school kid, I too - TopicsExpress

Dr. Radhakrishnans Bday: Just like any other school kid, I too used to celebrate this day as Teachers Day, but now I feel ashamed of comparing my teachers with such a greedy man by wishing them on his birthday. I hope and pray that no teacher ever falls to this level of immorality. The teachers are suppose to be the idol for students.....So what are we teaching our kids by celebrating this day???? This man did nothing during our freedom struggle, he was rather busy serving the British for which he was awarded the Sir title. He was praised by the Britishers for his extensive knowledge of the Western philosophical and literary traditions which also earned him the reputation of being a bridge-builder between India and the West. He was no where in the political scene after 1947, but, he suddenly came into prominence during his tenure as the Ambassador of India to the Soviet Union, when he accidentally met someone, who is supposed to have been dead for long. His desire to let the citizens of India know the truth was suppressed forever by Jawaharlal Nehru, when he proposed his name and made him Indias first Vice-President, immediately on his return from Moscow in 1952. This was objected to by great scholar and freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Are we all dead? From where does this Sir Sarvepalli come to be our Vice-President?! he is said to have remarked. In 1954 Radhakrishnan was conferred with Indias first Bharat Ratna award and then in 1962 Radhakrishnan succeeded Rajendra Prasad as Indias second president. His son Sarvepalli Gopal was a renowned historian who wrote several books on Nehru. What happened following Radhakrishnan s arrival in Moscow has for long been discussed in the corridors of powers in hushed tones. Shown here is a full-page story from the Hindustan Times written in March 2001 by a senior journalist who is now with the NDTV. For those who do not know, HT is one of Indias leading and most respectable newspapers. It is not a tabloid and neither has it any affiliation to nor any attraction for Forward Bloc, BJP, RSS or anyone opposed to the Congress party. Therefore, youve got to take the following excerpts from the HT article very, very seriously. And if they do not send a shiver down your spine, please get a check done to see if you have any. Those who reaped the harvest of Subhas Boses struggle and came to power in 1947 did not seem to have any. * An Indian Ambassador was allowed to meet Bose -- on the condition that he would not try to speak to him. When the Ambassador wondered about what to do in case Bose wished to speak to him, he was told that it has been taken care of, … A rather ominous bit of hospitality. * When a well-known researcher contacted Mikhael Gorbachev, the former (USSR) premier evaded a direct answer, and is alleged to have said it was up to both governments (Russia and India) to solve the issue [of Subhas Chandra Bose] once and for all. * A former head of the Foreign Security Service (the old KGB) has indicated to a prominent researcher that files in Russian archives do contain detailed information -- but the onus is on the Indian Government to show more interest. A former Ministry of External Affairs official quoted extensively by the Hindustan Times later detailed his information to me. One of Rai Singh Yadavs sources was leading academic Ram Rahul, who had learned about Netajis presence from his good friend, a former highly-placed Russian official. When he was on his death bed, Rahul sent for Yadav (now deceased) and passed on the information about Bose in Soviet Russia. Release this information when India is ready to ask questions about Netaji, Rahul pleaded to Yadav, who went public in 2001. India wasnt certainly ready to ask questions then; but is she now?
