Dr Salim Ali, sitting in the heavens above, would be a happy man. Bird-ringing at the Ramsar site, the Harike wildlife sanctuary, has been revived with a pilot project by the BNHS, WWF-India and the Punjab Govt. Harike was the site of a massive ringing project from 1980-85 under the legendary Dr Salim Ali. Some wonderful records of coots, grey herons, tufted ducks recovered from the erstwhile USSR were recorded then by the late SA Hussain, the close associate of Dr Salim Ali. My write-up in the Hindustan Times.
