Dr. Shahin (Samad) Dadkhah is a diplomat and former adviser to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, when the president was secretary-general of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and chief nuclear negotiator from 2003-2005. Born in 1971, Dadkhah received his BA and MA degrees from, respectively, the University of Naples in Italy and Biknet University in Turkey. Fluent in Italian, Spanish, English, Arabic and Turkish, Dadkhah received his Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Madrid and returned to Iran in 2001. He was appointed an adviser to the SNSC by Ali Younesi, Minister of Intelligence in the administration of former President Mohammad Khatami. In the conference in Bonn, Germany, in December 2001 to decide the future of Afghanistan after the Taliban had been overthrown, Dadkhah was a member of Iran’s diplomatic team led by then ambassador to the United Nations and current Foreign Minister, Dr. Mohammad Javad Zarif. Dadkhah was also a member of Iran’s nuclear negotiation team during the Khatami administration. In May 2007, when Iranian and American diplomats met in Baghdad to talk about stabilizing the country, Dadkhah was a member of Iran’s negotiation team led by Hassan Kazemi-Qomi, Iran’s ambassador to Iraq and a commander in the Quds Force.
