Dr. Shakova has just returned from another expedition to the East - TopicsExpress

Dr. Shakova has just returned from another expedition to the East Siberian Arctic Shelf (ESAS). In a series of videos, she is interviewed by Nick Breeze on the results of her teams studies of methane hydrates. In this video she confirms that they have observed, once again, increases in methane release. She explains a little about their methodology. She also explains their new research, knowledge that (sadly) explains why the substrates have turned out to be so volatile. Many scientists have, until now, insisted the methane hydrates in the Arctic will take 1000s of years to begin thawing. It seems likely to me that they will have to reconsider their hypotheses based on this research. Shakova, et al. have now unlocked explanatory mechanisms for the startling observations which have concerned those, mostly Russian, scientists exploring these Siberian shallows for some years. (Please be warned that the sound isnt great. This may be because she is speaking from Alaska.)
