Dr. Stephen Davis Trevathan, director of Al Akhawayn School in Ifrane and former AUI faculty, gave a lecture on Islamophobia Thursday. Trevathan defined Islamophobia as a cultural mindset that came from the West but is not necessarily a “Western” mindset, as it can be found among Muslims as well as non-Muslims. He indicated that people within Muslim culture as well as outsiders can hold Islamophobia. Moroccans, he said, are often afraid of their own cultural background, and as a result the middle class is beginning to move away from Islam. goo.gl/QPNjdw
