Dr. Stiver: God certainly has His gaze on Elijah. That was the last thing the specialist told me this morning, so let me start from the beginning. The genetics counselor met with us first and shared her concerns about the baby having hydrops (a lot of fluid in the baby causing the babys organs and heart to shut down from the pressure of the fluid.) She also had concerns that his umbilical cord hadnt formed properly, causing more damage to his brain and development. Having only one kidney and clubbed feet were also among her concerns. She prepped me for stillbirth and told me about support groups to join. It was extremely hard to hear this and the entire time we met, I kept saying With God all things are possible in my head and fighting the overwhelming presence of death in the room. An hour later we began the ultrasound. After a very quiet observation and scans of his entire body, the conclusion is: the evidence of hydrops is GONE, he has TWO kidneys, his umbilical cord is WONDERFUL, the fluid around the baby is PERFECT, and his growth is still small, but its consistent. The Dr. was excited to see him moving so much but, shared that Elijahs heart has a chamber that isnt the size it should be. Hes referring me to an Indianapolis specialist to check on his heart, but I was told that it looks treatable and not life threatening. When I asked if stillbirth was still an option, or if he agreed that Elijah is in stable condition, the Dr. looked at me with all sincerity and said that stillbirth or death is extremely low at this point. I told him that we were praying for a miracle and trusting God, and that is where he shared his agreement over Gods gaze and my child being aligned. :) I should also add that there was a part where we were able to see his perfectly adorable face and he has Liams lips. :) I type this and my heart wants to sing for joy at the work of His hand. God has heard our prayers, and answered in His wonderful grace and mercy. I am in absolute awe as I see the mighty name of Jesus prevail.
