Dr. Tedros holds talks with Sameh Shoukry, Foreign Minster of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia held discussions with #SamehShoukry, Foreign Minster of the Arab Republic of Egypt; on Saturday 27, in the margins of the UN General Assembly. The discussion covers regional and global affairs of common interests. Dr Tedros briefed the current situation in South Sudan and Somalia. Concerning Somalia Dr. Tedros underscored that the political as well as security development in Somalia is progressive. In this regard, there is a real progress in leaderships commitment to maintain peace and stability in Somalia. Mentioning Jubba agreement and the consecutive engagement of both the president and prime minister. He added that currently, AMISOM holds over two -third of the territory. However, much is to be done in civilian administration to benefit Somalis from peace dividends. AMISOM holds over two -third of the territory. That is why political and security situation is in progress. Concerning South Sudan, Dr. Tedros said that the negotiation is going on in Bahirdar although the pace is slow, the process is now in the right direction. Secondly, monitoring and verification mechanisms are set up and working on it. So, he hoped that there will be political solution. Dr. Tedros commended to maintain the momentum of the cooperative engagement, to maximize the mutual benefit from equitable utilization of Nile waters. The two Ministers also discussed on the situation in Yemen, Libya, Somalia and South Sudan, and the threat of terrorism, where the situation is severe and dangerous. The international community, UN, AU and other regional blocks should take this into consideration, need concerted efforts to avert the situation. Mr. Shoukry also thanked Ethiopia and its leaders for the commitment they made to maintain the momentum on the negotiation process; mentioning the two leaders meetings in Malabo and NewYork.which was cooperative.he underlined that, President el Sisi will pay official visit to Ethiopia.Dr Tedros welcomed the Presidents visit to Ethiopia.Furthermore, he confirmed that Ethiopia is preparing to host the fifth Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) from November 1-3,2014 in Addis Ababa and a business forum between the two countries is also expected to be held alongside the Joint Ministerial Commission. He said the JMC hoped to discuss the way forward to further enhance the level of cooperation and implementation of the agreements between the two countries and will design a followup mechanism which will help to expedite the implementation of the agreements by setting an action plan.
