Dr VICKRAMABAHU COMPLAINS TO SC SC case No SC FR 308 2013 Dr Vickramabahu Karunarathne VS Peradeniya University, On Feb. 4th 1978, with others including Lalith Abesinghe and late Nissanka Karunathilaka, Bahu hoisted black flags in Kandy area, against launching the dictatorial constitution. They were arrested and remanded. Later university of Peradeniya removed Bahu from the post of Senior Lecturer in the Engineering faculty. However later after an inquiry cabinet decided that Bahu was politically victimized hence he should be reinstated with back wages. Dr Sarath Amunugama as Minster of education sent a letter conveying that decision. This cabinet decision was not implemented by the university. A Case was filed at the Supreme Court and the university promised to implement; but again refused to act. Then it was brought before the Human rights Commission and it ruled that the non implementation was a breach of fundamental rights of Bahu. However the university refused to accept the ruling. There fore this case was filed to demand compensations and termination benefits. Hon Sumanthiran, Ranil Prematilake acted as councils instructed by Suminda Perera. It came for first hearing on 25 September 2013. AG’s department requested time as respondents have not received notice so far. Case was postponed for 11 of November 2013. UPU news. via e-mail
